Stepping Into Soul Time
It’s hard to believe that it’s October already, but I’m honestly pumped. I absolutely love everything spooky season from the colors to the aesthetics and traditions.
Time this year has seemed to go by more rapidly than ever before—at least in my experience.
What is your sense? Does time feel… wobbly? Swift? Slow?
In the turning of the Wheel of the Year into Autumn, I’m enjoying the first signs of the leaves changing, though it’s only a few trees here and there. The nights are cooling down, and I want to go outside every day, far more than in the heat of Summer.
This build up to the last harvest holiday with Samhain (“SOW-in”) is always such an interesting space for me. Every year, I feel a bit more productive during this time leading up to Halloween.
Looking back over my typical yearly trajectory, I’m recognizing I tend to create a lot of content and run a lot of events at this time of year. This year is no different with me participating in the Ultimate Blog Challenge and hosting an eight day event at the end of this month.
I also feel like growing up in the Hot Topic, Nightmare Before Christmas generation means that the spooky and weird things in life are celebrated more at this time due to that generational nostalgia around this time of year.
Halloween has long been cultural reference point I grew up with where I collectively noticed we seem less afraid of “scary things.”
From a shadow work perspective, I feel like that gives us a little bit of extra motivation, inspiration, and subconscious material to play with. We’re all a little bit more accepting of death and the macabre.
For the witchy of us, we may also enjoy this time and atmosphere for the association with Samhain and the Witches’ New Year. Simultaneously, it’s cooling down, it’s not a miserable time going outside, and it’s pumpkin spice and apple cider season. So there’s just vibes to enjoy all around.
If you’ve been feeling called to go deeper this October, it makes sense why.
We have so many people waking up to the reality that is the hell hole of doom scrolling, constantly reading bad news, and living in the middle of unprecedented, challenging times.
We’re being called to remember the ancient ways of community, interdependence, and biodiversity in all things.
More people are waking up to the magic in the mundane and the sacred in the profane. More in remembrance that the wisdom is within us and that we don’t have to keep seeking it from outside sources and gurus. But we do need to remember the roots of ourselves—who we are and who we came here to be.
So as the veil thins at this time of year, and we turn back to the Earth, to our lineage, to where we came from, I wanted to pull some cards with some messages for this particular year and season.
Soul Time
The first card is Soul Time from Sacred Geometry Activations by LON.
The frequency of Soul Time asks us to allow the possibility of a new reality to emerge—one that embraces the concept that while the corporeal body is mortal, the soul is timeless, limitless, and infinite.
I love this timing for Soul Time because it’s really pushing us to reflect on our relationship with being embodied, as all of our ancestors were embodied. This card speaks to a very duality-based world and our human experience, because we look back in history and forward from our present into what we want to move towards. This perception of linear time is something that’s only held in the body and mind.
Soul Time invites us to have access to all experiences that our soul has been through, is going through, and will go through across all points in “time.” This time of stepping into October and into Samhain season is inviting that remembrance that we were meant to be greater than even our ancestors ever dreamed, because we are the generations forward that are experiencing their ripple, and we’re rippling forward into future generations, whether we have children or not.
This card is really calling us into remembering the seat of our soul as the seat of true power.
Compassion
The second card is Compassion from The Wild Offering by Tosha Silver. (It’s first important to remember that any instances of God or specific god-like language in this deck is meant to be replaced with your own words—God, Lord, Universe, Spirit, Higher Self, etc.)
This card for this month reads: As you pray each day for greater compassion, a new self is born, drawing new people and experiences. Dear Lord, help me feel ever-deepening self-acceptance. May I see myself as you see me.
Interestingly enough, I recently did an exclusive reading just for my email newsletter list, and the cards that I drew there have really similar themes to this Compassion card. So I’m just getting this increasing awareness and push from the Universe that this is really a time for us to do that healing work within us, so that we can step into greater compassion in the world and have greater impact in one another.
And when I say “greater,” I don’t mean it in a judgmental way.
Though, it is a judgment—it’s a knowing that we can do better as a species and as a planet than we’re doing right now, because we live in an abundant, creative world where there doesn’t have to be the hierarchy and power structures that exist right now.
It’s through compassion that we begin to break those old power structures. We don’t get there through perpetuating the power of hate.
Honoring the Cycles
I think all of our ancestors would agree that we can improve upon their mistakes. When our loved ones move on, I believe that they no longer hold the trappings of the human ego, and they see things more clearly from the lens of that Universal love.
This concept of celebrating and honoring where we’ve come from in the past, being present in the now and enjoying what is, and also moving towards what we want that’s in higher alignment—this is Soul Time rather than linear time.
It’s seeing all three layers of our perception of time together, instead of what we as humans tend to do, which is see: 1) the past, the trauma, the regret and the pain, or 2) get upset that we’re not where we want to be in the future right now, and so we miss out on the presence of everything that is possible and HERE.
Capitalism really thrives on keeping us in a state of striving for things that don’t actually create meaning and that don’t feel as good as expected once we have them.
So let’s keep unhooking from this artificial matrix co-created by systems and step back into the wisdom and inherent compassion in our souls.
Over the course of October, I invite you to really use this space in time to notice the beauty that is around you as the seasons change, and to use that as an anchor to feel into the cycles of life, death, and rebirth that exist within you.
As I mentioned, Samhain is the Witch’s New Year, and it’s naturally a really reflective time. There is collective consciousness of this time of year about the veil and being tuned towards that ancestral remembrance that creates the energy of the perceived shift between realms.
And physically, it’s a really good time to witness the changes, because they’re so easy to see: the changing of the leaves, of the light, the feeling of the shortening days, and the crispening of the air. It’s a wonderful opportunity to collect leaves or go a little slower and to see things in a new light. Layer in self-compassion with that, and watch the magic flow.
Loving ourselves is the most powerful medicine we can offer to the world. Remember that joy is resistance, and our ancestors didn’t fight to survive and continue our species in the hopes we’d continue to struggle to simply survive. They want us all to thrive—together.
So—where are you more compassionate with others than you are with yourself?
How can you extend that compassion inward? May your love be abundant.
