The Ancestors Were in the Room, and They Had Some Things to Say
On Friday last week, my dear friend Dr. Melissa Bird and I went live to talk about out upcoming 8 Days of Revolutionary Awakening, and some magical moments happened that I’m still processing:
I'm a little nervous before going live each time—but having a friend in the room changes everything. I’m able to focus on letting the conversation flow where it needs to go, anchoring into our shared space, and knowing no matter what, we will enjoy our conversation together. With Dr. Bird, I’m always at ease!
Still—something else was different on Friday. My office was not that warm. It was a crisp autumn day, and all of us in the house commented on how it was really feeling like fall finally.
But within minutes of Dr. Melissa Bird and I going live, I felt heat rippling outward like I was standing too close to a fire. Not anxiety heat. Not nervousness. Not even my energy channeling or the warmth I feel when doing Reiki.
Instead, it was a supernatural heat like I was encircled in the room by a crowd of unseen loved ones—as if their crowded bodies were tangible, their breath warming the air.
My ancestors were there. And they had something to say.
Their essence came through like an echo, urging me: Keep going. Keep talking. Keep calling in what needs to be shared.
I could feel them gathering. Leaning in. Witnessing.
If you want to feel what that energy was like, you can watch the full Q&A here, but today I wanted to share more of the moments that I’m still thinking about days later.
1. Stop Taking the Bad Medicine
The concept of a "soul elixir" came up during our conversation, and I can't stop thinking about it.
Dr. Bird and I talked about how so much of modern spirituality is like being force-fed medicine that tastes terrible and doesn't actually heal you. Programs promising that if you just manifest hard enough, meditate long enough, raise your vibration high enough, you'll transcend your humanity.
But that's not medicine. It’s more like poison disguised as healing.
Your spiritual practice should taste like heaven on Earth to you. It should be one-of-a-kind, crafted from your own connection, your own direct relationship with the divine—however you name it.
Not a prescribed formula. Not someone else's blueprint. Not a certification program that promises mastery in six months.
YOUR practice. YOUR medicine. YOUR soul elixir.
2. There's Nothing to Master
One of the questions asked was, “Can I master all of this in eight days?"
Dr. Bird and I both agreed—absolutely not. And that's exactly the point.
Dr. Bird shared a story from when she was getting her PhD and doing research on homeless women and trauma. Someone called her "the expert" and asked what she thought, and she said: "I'm not an expert in anything. Just because I'm getting a PhD doesn't make me an expert."
Then she said: "I don't wanna master shit because if I've mastered something, I'm leaving. I'm out of here. I'm moving on to wherever the hell we go when we leave the body."
Exactly.
Because here's what I've learned after eighteen years of facilitating rituals and working with hundreds of clients as a therapist and guide: there's nothing TO master except the ability to connect your heart, body, and mind to your spirit. You are unique and ever evolving.
Once you unlock that—once you can tune in at will and trust what comes through—you've figured out all you need to figure out.
Everything else is just living. Adjusting. Growing. Being human.
We're not here to ascend beyond our humanity. We're here to have an adventure in these bodies until we're not, and everything in between IS the whole thing.
3. Why We Have No Agenda
Someone in the chat literally asked: "Can you explain the agenda of this live?"
Dr. Bird laughed and said: "No, we're not here with an agenda. We're just here to talk about this amazing eight-day event."
And I loved that moment because it highlighted something really important about how we're approaching Between the Veils.
Coming from my background as a trauma therapist, I used to be almost OVERLY trauma-informed. I'd give people the entire rundown, minute by minute, so they'd know exactly what to expect and feel safe.
But Dr. Bird and I are always having conversations that expand my perspective. She said: "The need for people to have a clearly defined list of what's gonna happen—that is such a colonized way of thinking about events. People are so afraid of just allowing things to unfold."
She's right.
You CAN be trauma-informed without pre-scripting everything. You can create safety through transparency about VALUES and the CONTAINER rather than control through rigid structure.
Dr. Bird put it perfectly when she said: "We are gifting practice to people with absolutely zero expectation of what your outcome's gonna be. That scares the hell out of people who have been trained in capitalist spiritual practice."
But that's the whole point. We're not selling you certainty. We're offering you permission and capacity to remember what's already yours.
We just plain have fun!!!
4. The Blanket Moment
There was this moment during the live where Dr. Bird and I landed in a powerful synchronicity.
We'd been talking about spiritual work and fair exchange—about how medicine people in communities have always been compensated for their work. I was saying something about how it might have been chicken or eggs or a blanket, and Dr. Bird said "blanket" at the exact same time I did.
We both paused, then laughed, because we'd both just SEEN it—the same vision of a blanket being passed. Hand to hand. Generation to generation.
That's what happens when the veil is thin and the ancestors are that present. They show you the signs and synchronicities—like us witnessing the same thing simultaneously so you know it's real, not just imagination.
I think the blanket represents what's being passed down to us. Not just knowledge or practices, but spiritual warmth. Protection. The energetic covering that kept our ancestors safe enough to pass their wisdom down through persecution, through colonization, and through all the times their expression was criminalized or driven underground.
And now they're saying: it's time. Take what we preserved. Use it. The world needs it NOW.
5. Why NOW—The Urgency of This Moment
Dr. Bird and I kept circling back to this question: why THIS event at THIS time?
And the answer is urgent and clear: because of what's happening in the world right now.
We're watching Christian nationalism rise in real time. Rights being stripped away. Violence being sanctioned against people for the color of their skin, their gender identity, who they love, how they worship. Division is being weaponized. Us versus them has never been louder.
And it's all being done under the banner of "Christianity."
Here's what makes this so personal for both of us: we're both Christians.
I was a Unity prayer chaplain. A youth group assistant. I wrote research papers defending Christ's existence in high school. I have a deep, personal relationship with Jesus—with Christ Consciousness—that has sustained me through impossible things.
Dr. Bird is a lay preacher and a descendant of the Shivwits Band of Paiutes who also walks with Christ. She understands that Indigenous spirituality and Christian faith aren't contradictory—they're beautifully woven together in her lineage and practice.
So when we see what's being done in Christ's name right now? It enrages us.
Because that's not love. That's not the Jesus we know. That's empire using religion as a weapon of control.
We refuse to stay quiet while Christianity gets weaponized against the very people Christ centered in his ministry—the marginalized, the outcasts, the ones the religious authorities deemed "too much" or "too wrong."
This is why the ancestors are so insistent that this work happens NOW.
When division is this loud, when violence is being sanctioned by people claiming to speak for God, we need to get louder. Loud of heart and spirit.
We need to get out of the mind that's willing to believe the bullshit stories sold to us by systems that profit off our fear and separation.
We need to sink into the whisperings of our soul and that deeper knowing that says: we are all connected. We are one planet. She provides. Love is the revolution.
6. The Golden Thread and My Druidry
This brings me to something central to my own practice and why I'm passionate about this work.
I woke up at eighteen years old with an unshakeable knowing: "I am a Druid." I had no idea what that meant at the time, but eighteen years later—after studying Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Wicca, Hellenic Reconstruction, Celtic Reconstruction, Egyptian Reconstruction, after attending Catholic mass and Unity services and pagan circles—I understand.
There's a golden thread running through all spiritual traditions.
Honor the cycles. Connect with your ancestors. Work with the elements. Create sacred space. Mark transitions. Tell the stories.
These are HUMAN practices. Universal building blocks that show up across every tradition on Earth.
Recently, several close friends, spiritual allies, and my own guide team have been getting LOUD about me owning my role as a Druid. Not in teaching one right path, but in standing firmly in this truth: we are on one planet, and she provides. We are all part of one living system.
That's what Between the Veils is about—creating a container where you can find YOUR ancestral practices, YOUR connection, YOUR heaven on Earth elixir, instead of being told there's only one right way or being sold someone else's prescription for enlightenment.
What I'm Hoping For
So what am I hoping happens during these eight days?
I'm hoping this becomes the magical mini-series where my voice and Dr. Bird's voice open fully to channel exactly what we and everyone listening needs to hear right now.
I'm hoping it deepens my connection with my guardian and guide team in ways that are infinitely expansive while also making me all the more grateful to be human. To love and be loved in this body, on this Earth, in this moment.
My spiritual practice has evolved dramatically over the years. In 2023, light language started flowing through me. In 2024, I began clearly discerning the voices of past loved ones. Now in 2025, I'm deepening my plant magic and my relationship with the green growing things that have always been part of my practice.
Between the Veils feels like the next expansion of all of this.
And I'm hoping you'll experience your own version of that expansion too—whatever it looks like for YOUR unique path, YOUR lineage, YOUR medicine.
The ancestors are here. I can feel them. The heat in the room on Friday was just the beginning.
Dr. Bird and I are just the channels and people passionate enough to talk about this stuff—but this work is bigger than us. If you've read this far, if something in you is stirring, if you can feel your own ancestors whispering yes, this, NOW—that's not coincidence.
Our ancestors are calling us home to ourselves.
Your spirituality is yours. Your magic is yours. Your heaven on Earth elixir is waiting to be crafted.
Soon, we begin.
Will you join us?
