Black Lives Matter

If you are Black and living in America, I genuinely cannot imagine what your daily life is like.

I am white. I recognize my privilege as living right on the surface of my skin. I can never know what it is like to be in a Black body, nor a Brown one. However, I aim to be a healer who helps, rather than harms.

BIPOC are treated differently in our society, and those who are Black are some of the most egregiously impacted. If someone is Black and Queer, especially Black Trans Women, their likelihood of being the victim of hate crimes and violence skyrockets.

While I typically pride myself in being able to empathize with my clients, understanding their complex experiences with trauma or being LGBTQIA+, alternative in some way, or so on, racism is not something I can feel the impact of personally. What I can do is:

  • check the racism that inherently exists within myself and work to dismantle it

  • educate other white people and help them tackle their own racism

  • show up and be an ally for Black people and their voices by listening, learning, and helping emphasize for my clients that they DO deserve better treatment. They deserve the BEST.

While I cannot claim expertise in what it means and feels like to be Black, my background in trauma informed care has helped me assist Black clients to process the manifestations of societal trauma that impact them daily. I understand Black folx are disproportionately targeted and affected by domestic violence, incarceration, sexual assault, and other traumatic crimes, and I want to help as many people as I can.
